JK Rowling roasts former fans who threatened to burn her books over Trump criticism – The Hill (blog)

J.K. Rowling ripped one of her former fans who tweeted that she burned all her “Harry Potter” books because of the author’s criticism of President Trump.

“[J]ust burned all my Harry Potter books after being a fan for 17 years. The Phils. Stone was one of the first books I EVER read,” the unidentified user’s tweet read, according to a screenshot posted by Rowling.

“I’m upset it has to be that way.. You embarrassed me, disgusted me, and I will never read your work again.”

The author had a biting response.

“Guess it’s true what they say: you can lead a girl to books about the rise and fall of an autocrat, but you still can’t make her think,” she wrote on Wednesday.

It was the second time this week Rowling responded to a Twitter user who said they were going to burn her books.

Another user posted on Tuesday that they would “burn your books and movies too,” after reading an article in which Rowling is quoted.

“Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I’ve still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter,” Rowling wrote.

Rowling also praised her followers who have sent her positive messages.

The author has been a vocal opponent of the president since his election and after he entered office. Following Trump’s executive order on immigration, Rowling resurfaced a December 2015 tweet from Vice President Pence who said ” Calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. are offensive and unconstitutional.”

After Trump in 2015 doubled down on his call for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” Rowling tweeted that even the famed “Dark Lord” from her novels wasn’t as bad.
